Our Story
It all started when owner/operator, Kelsey Pantuck, was growing up on her family’s fifth-generation farm, and she was raised with a love for cows and farming. In college, Kelsey studied business management and knew she wanted to own her own business someday that connected people with the source of their food. The summer before her senior year, she had an internship at a dairy farm in Easton, PA that made their own cheese, yogurt, and ice cream, and it all clicked.
Fast forward to 2018, when Kelsey began to make yogurt at Kolb’s Farm Store in Spring City, PA. The fact that Kolb’s Farm is passionate about connecting the local community to their milk source fits hand-in-hand with Kelsey’s dream. Not to mention the families had been friends for generations.
Today, Kelsey makes Pure Joy in small batches in Phoenixville. While Kolb’s is no longer processing their own milk, Kelsey works with them to source milk from Maplehofe Dairy in nearby Lancaster County. Each batch is made with intention. Her goal is to continue to bring a delicious product to you that is made as simply as it can be!
Where does the name Pure Joy come from?
The name stems from the Bible verses James 1:2-4: “Count it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Kelsey found encouragement and strength in these verses during a particularly difficult phase of life. The name jumped right out at her! Additionally, Kelsey hosted a podcast from 2022-2024 interviewing people from the community, with a focus on this theme. You can give it a listen here.
